Bosch is to Cut 13,000 Jobs by 2030: Auto Industry Crisis Costs $2.5 Billion a Year.
The German multinational sees artificial intelligence as a key driver for reducing costs and improving production efficiency.
The economic environment, already under severe pressure for some time, and market conditions for Bosch Mobility have recently become even more challenging. The global automotive market continues to experience modest growth. The lack of a regulatory framework is making it difficult for new technologies, such as hydrogen, to establish themselves. Furthermore, the market penetration of emerging technologies such as electromobility and automated driving is also significantly lagging, and demand in Bosch's sales markets is shifting largely to regions outside Europe. Added to this are ongoing structural changes and strong price and competitive pressures in the global automotive industry. At the same time, in this challenging market environment, Bosch Mobility must also make very substantial investments in its future, financing them largely from its own resources. As previously communicated, this translates into an annual cost gap of approximately 2.5 billion euros worldwide in our Mobility business.
Bosch intends to take various measures, using all levers, to reduce costs across the board as quickly as possible, in order to close the cost gap in the near future. The company sees significant potential for cost reduction, achieving productivity gains through the use of artificial intelligence in manufacturing and engineering, reducing material and equipment costs, reducing capital expenditures, and streamlining logistics and global supply chains. Furthermore, structural and personnel adjustment measures are unavoidable: the company plans to reduce approximately 13,000 jobs, particularly at its Mobility locations in Germany. The timelines for the necessary adjustments vary and extend until the end of 2030.
