Eni and Hera's new environmental hub is being built in Ravenna: €100 million for industrial regeneration and the circular economy.

The Ravenna Environmental District, a hub dedicated to the circular economy and industrial waste management, is now a reality. The project by Eni and Hera, and specifically their subsidiaries Eni Rewind and Herambiente, represents a model for industrial regeneration and ecological transition. Thanks to environmental remediation efforts carried out by Eni Rewind, the owner of the area, and a total investment of €100 million, a 26-hectare brownfield site located within the Ravenna district has been reclaimed and repurposed for a new production development project.
The Ravenna Environmental Division's facilities will help address the structural shortage of special waste management facilities in Italy and maximize material recovery, reducing the use of landfills. Specifically, the HEA platform—a joint venture between HASI (Herambiente Servizi Industriali) and Eni Rewind—represents one of the most significant projects in Italy in the integrated management of industrial waste: a multipurpose facility dedicated to the pre-treatment of special waste, both solid and liquid, from production and remediation activities. It will replace the historic HASI storage platform in Ravenna, introducing more advanced technologies, greater capacity, and greater operational flexibility to manage both the needs of the Eni Group's operations and those of the industrial market.
The redevelopment of the former industrial area of ??Ca' Ponticelle also includes a major plant for the production of energy from renewable sources.
With a treatment capacity of up to 60,000 tons per year and a multi-line plant, this platform enables multiple operations—from storage and repackaging to shredding and blending—with the primary goal of maximizing material recovery and reducing disposal, resulting in operational efficiencies and economies of scale. For the Ravenna area, one of the country's main industrial districts and among the largest producers of hazardous waste, the platform represents a strategic infrastructure: it strengthens local plant capacity, reduces flows to non-regional or foreign plants, and provides businesses with more efficient local services, contributing to competitiveness, business continuity, and the development of new circular supply chains.
Also within the sector, Eni Rewind's biorecovery plant has an annual capacity of 80,000 tons to treat soil contaminated by hydrocarbons from remediation activities. Through a biological process of aerobic biodegradation, the plant will treat the soil, which can be reused as backfill at remediation sites to minimize the use of virgin material. Process monitoring and compliance will be ensured by a dedicated chemical laboratory managed by Labanalysis Environmental Services, a national leader in the sector and a subsidiary of Eni Rewind.
The redevelopment of the former Ca' Ponticelle industrial area also includes a major renewable energy production facility, built by Plenitude, a subsidiary of Eni. Commissioned in 2024, the photovoltaic system has a capacity of 6 MWp and extends over 11 hectares, with over 10,000 panels installed. Capable of capturing light from both sides, the modules are mounted on mobile structures that follow the sun's path throughout the day, thus optimizing energy production. The structures rest on special supports placed directly on the waterproof roofing installed as part of the permanent safety measures for the area.
