Italy pays much higher energy costs than other countries

20/04/2026

Energy costs in Italy remain too high compared to our main European partners.

Every day that passes is a competitive advantage handed over to competitors.

We have analyzed May 2025 data taking three bills from three comparable companies located in Italy, France, and Spain, and we have found significant differences between the various countries:

- Spain: Networks €7.92; System charges €4.41; Commodity €49

- France: Networks €15.9; System charges €0; Commodity €83

- Italy: Networks €35; System charges €47; Commodity €114

The gap is enormous: Italy pays more than three times as much as Spain and almost double that of France, resulting in higher costs for all three components of the energy bill.

It's not just a question of raw material prices, but of the combination of factors that makes the final bill unsustainable for businesses and families.

This imbalance inevitably translates into a strong competitive gap.

Italian companies must compete on international markets with structurally higher costs than their European competitors, reducing margins and investment capacity.

This requires immediate, structural interventions: without reducing the energy gap, the competitiveness of our industrial system will remain compromised.
