Melinda: new cableway for transporting apples

Melinda wins a 10 million tender and with this will build a cableway dedicated exclusively to the transport of apples: it is a plant, the first in Europe, used only for the transport of apples.
This will save as many as six thousand road trips by truck.
In fact, according to the new project: «40 thousand tons of fruit will be transported, avoiding driving 12 thousand kilometers per year».
It is a unique cableway in the world, capable of combining a height difference of 87 meters with a 1300 meter long monocable system, which will be able to manage the transport of 460 «bins» (stackable containers) every hour, at a speed of five meters per second.
«This result is an extraordinary recognition for all our consortium members - declared Ernesto Seppi, president of Melinda - An award for the planning that we have been able to implement and which will contribute to the efforts in favor of sustainability that have been underway for some time now. Our goal is to offer high quality agricultural products while reducing, step by step, their ecological footprint."
The construction of the innovative cableway will not only bring improvements in terms of the environmental impact and sustainability of transport, but also in terms of tourism: a project of this type will enhance the entire Melinda movement, especially the visitor centre, in which a new dedicated route will allow guests to live a unique experience in the world.
