24/06/2024

The Saudi airline, Saudia, has announced an order for 105 Airbus aircraft, the largest in the Gulf country's history.

“This historic agreement concerns 105 confirmed aircraft and marks an important moment not only for the Saudi aviation industry, but also for the entire MENA region,” the group underlined in a statement.

Saudia will purchase 54 A321neo aircraft, while its low-cost subsidiary flyadeal will acquire 12 A320neo and 39 A321neo.

This new order comes more than a year after the one announced by the new company Riyadh Air for 72 aircraft.

The Saudi authorities have also announced their intention to build a new airport in the capital Ryad, capable of welcoming 120 million passengers a year.

Currently, Saudia has a fleet of 144 aircraft, while Flyadeal has 32. Deliveries will begin in 2026 and continue until 2032. Also known as Saudi Arabian Airlines, its official designation until 2012, Saudia is based in Jeddah and received its first jet plane in 1945, a gift from American President Franklin Roosevelt.
