Termoli shuts down: Stellantis activates solidarity contract for 1,823 workers. The gigafactory is now a mirage.
09/12/2025
The Stellantis engine plant in Termoli is undergoing another extended shutdown.
Until August 31, 2026, all 1,823 workers at the plant will be involved in a solidarity contract, effectively extending the measure already in place.
The announcement came at the end of a meeting between company management and trade unions, fueling renewed concerns about the future of the Molise production site.
The crisis is worsening: in May, Stellantis had already opened a window for 200 voluntary redundancies.
Meanwhile, the gigafactory project has been shelved by the ACC joint venture, while the group will invest €4.1 billion in a new battery factory in Zaragoza, to be operational by the end of 2026.
In Molise, production of the Fire engine is being discontinued, only partially replaced by the new EDCT gearbox, which will reabsorb approximately 300 workers.
