This innovative project has been approved. Ravenna will become “the city of the energy transition” since an energy district will be born off its coasts. It may even be accessible by tourists, since it is thought to organize guided tours to see the 65 wind towers and the photovoltaic park. The complex will have an installed capacity of 620 megawatts (MW) and an annual production of clean electricity estimated at 1.5 TWh: the equivalent of the needs of 500,000 households. Part of the energy will be used to decarbonise the Port of Ravenna; while the other part will be used to produce green hydrogen through electrolyzers.
According to some authoritative sources, the Agnes project (which will be composed of low visual impact areas), could already start in 2023, making Romagna the core of the new “Hydrogen Valley”. In fact, the energy obtained from photovoltaics and wind power should allow the production of at least 4,000 tons of green hydrogen per year, extracted from the seawater through electrolysis. AGNES is a key project towards a colossal green conversion that has been promoted by Saipem, a plant engineering company of the Eni group, and the green and plant engineering company Qint'x, in collaboration with the University of Bologna and the La Sapienza University of Rome.
