DANA, electrification and sustainability

"Electrification on the off-highway? A necessary evolution, because it is sustainable and advantageous" says Ettore Cosoli, Global OH Engineering vice-president of the American multinational component giant Dana Incorporated, a company with a turnover of 7.1 billion dollars and more than 38,000 employees, develops and manufactures axles, transmissions, inverters, gearboxes and electric propulsion systems for light, commercial and off-highway vehicles. DANA appears to be the only supplier with in-house capabilities able to supply every component of a complete and fully integrated electrified system across all mobility markets and is now aiming the transition to green machines that do not draw power when not in use, and are reversible: the batteries with the engines "under braking" become accumulators and can recharge the energy. In the last 3 years, more than 400 million dollars have been invested in acquisitions to strategically expand the electrification skills (Tm4, Sme, Vocis, Nordresa, Rational Motion, Pi Innovo). The new products constantly evolve in a digitalization process, increasingly smart, interconnected and intelligent; the sensors are connected to each other and generate more accurate and consistent informations, key to obtain usable information for diagnostics and predictive maintenance.
