Gas in the Adriatic Sea, fifty platforms to be reactivated
11/04/2022
Gas fields in the Adriatic, the possibility of reactivating our platforms is an option to be seriously considered as it would alleviate the problems related to external supply by increasing internal production.
For now, Italy continues to not authorize new drilling, but once restored any of the 50 platforms would be able to supply about 3 billion cubic meters of gas a year.
In 1994 our country produced 21 billion cubic meters of methane per year on its own, today it consumes 76 billion cubic meters per year, 29 of which purchased from Russia.
Platforms need work, that is to dig deeper and widen the drilling area to send the water under the sea creating pressure to push the gas upwards.
