A 1,500 ton platform has set sail from the Rosetti Marino shipyard in Ravenna
04/03/2024
A platform for the extraction of gas from the seabed, with a weight of 1,500 tons and a construction cost of approximately 81 million euros, set sail from the Rosetti Marino shipyard in Ravenna on board the CY Interocean 2 heavy lift ship of the company navigation Big Lift Shipping.
The destination of the cargo is Tierra del Fuego, in the far south of Argentina, where the ship will arrive in a month.
Approximately one million hours of work were spent on the construction of the platform, without accidents, with daily peaks of over 300 people employed.
The Fénix platform field, which lies approximately 60 km off the Argentine coast, is the southernmost natural gas field in the world and is managed by Total Austral, the Argentine branch of the French energy giant Total Energies, which operates in partnership with the German Wintershall and the Argentine Pan American Energy. According to information disclosed by Rosetti Marino, the platform will deliver 10 million cubic meters per day of natural gas by 2024, a fundamental pillar for Argentina's national production, reducing imports for over 15 years.
The start of gas extraction comes less than two and a half years after the final investment decision, a demonstration of Total Energies' ability to leverage its energy portfolio.
