Once their life cycle has expired, how are electric car batteries disposed of?
A new problem, still to be addressed, on which one of the "oldest" European car manufacturers, Mercedes-Benz, intends to set a good example.
Starting from Europe. In fact, the first industrial-scale plant in the old continent for the recycling of lithium ion batteries opened last October 21st.
A 6,800 square meter factory powered 100 percent by green electricity.
The roof of the building has in fact been equipped with a photovoltaic system with a peak power of over 350 kilowatts.
This plant, which is a pioneer in strengthening sustainability in the automotive world, is located in the town of Kuppenheim, one hour away from Stuttgart and will have an annual recycling capacity of 2,500 tonnes of material, which will then be reused to build 50 thousand batteries intended for the German group's electric models.
