Chips, raw materials and energy prices affecting automotive

A real crisis on a global level has persisted since 2020, the shortage of semiconductors puts car manufacturers in a bad spot, already afflicted by the continuous logistical problems in the supply of fundamental components and the continuous increase in the price of raw materials and energy does not provide any room for improvement for throughout 2022. The fundamental problem concerns the lack of chips, the peak of the crisis occurred in the summer and now we are witnessing a progressive normalization of the situation even if we can still foresee difficulties for the whole year to come; we will see a recovery in demand and IHS Markit expects global sales of light vehicles to be around 82.4 million in 2022, 3.7% more than the almost 79.4 million in 2021. For Western Europe alone, they are 13.9 million sales are expected this year (+ 0.2% on 2020) and 15 million for the next (+ 7.8%).
