Snam, the BW Singapore regasification ship in Ravenna

30/06/2025

The regasification vessel BW Singapore, moored 8.5 kilometers off the coast of Ravenna, has successfully completed the plant commissioning activities in full compliance with the expected timeframes, preparatory to the start of commercial operations.

In fact, regasification activities have taken place over the last few weeks with the provision of capacity through competitive auction procedures, in accordance with the provisions of the current regulatory framework.

The BW Singapore regasification vessel, purchased by Snam in July 2022, is equipped – like the Italis Lng already in operation in Piombino – with an annual regasification capacity of 5 billion cubic meters. With its entry into service, the country's overall regasification capacity rises to 28 billion cubic meters per year, a volume equal to that imported from Russia in 2021 and equal to 45% of national gas demand, which can thus be satisfied through a carrier that guarantees broad diversification of supply routes.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) continues to provide a fundamental contribution to the diversification of the Italian energy system. In 2024, for example, LNG helped meet a quarter of Italy’s gas demand, with 150 ships from around 10 different countries reaching the four regasification terminals in the country, which become five with the entry into service of Ravenna.
