Volkswagen Group, batteries development and production

Direct production of batteries by Volkswagen Group, improving its experience on lithium-ion cells batteries with three new partnerships: Umicore, 24M Technologies and Vulcan Energy Resources; in Europe, six production plants are expected to be built by 2030. As final objectives, an annual production capacity of 160 GWh sufficient to power about 2.2 million 100% electric vehicles, a semi-solid process for the production of batteries aimed at decrease production costs, a supply of lithium carbon neutral from Rhine Valley in Germany which from 2026 will guarantee the resources needed for the direct production of cells in Europe.
